Frequently Asked Questions
Most frequent questions and answers
Q? How do I install concrete pipes?
A. AS/NZS 3725 “Design for installation of buried concrete pipes” sets out the methods and data required for calculating working loads on buried concrete pipe, relating this to the correct selection of reinforced concrete pipe and specifying details of the installation. The Standard details design and installation criteria for a broad range of applications.
Q? What do the classes of pipe represent?
A. To make concrete pipe more readily available; rather than produce the pipe to the specific Design loading required for every job, precast concrete pipe is often specified in terms of a generalized class system. The classes of pipe represent the minimum Design loading capacity a pipe produced to that class must have.
The classes are designated in the Australian Standard AS/NZS 4058 “Precast concrete pipes – pressure and non-pressure” which outlines the minimum requirements for materials and manufacture of precast reinforced concrete pipes. It classifies pipes on the basis of size, strength and application, and sets minimum requirements for sampling and testing. The Standard is the benchmark for concrete pipe manufacturers. This document is also essential for designers and specifiers to ensure correct specification for each application.
Q? What’s the tightest radius I can make with RCP?
A. Joints are manufactured with various geometries and tolerances, and therefore the best way to determine an acceptable maximum deflection is to go to our products page and download the MJB Pipe Joint Tolerances spreadsheet.
Q? How much of a gap am I allowed between joints?
A. Joints are manufactured with various geometries and tolerances, and therefore the best way to determine an acceptable joint gap is to go to our products page and download the MJB Pipe Joint Tolerances spreadsheet.
Q? What length are your pipes?
A. All our pipes have an effective laying length of 2.34 meters, but the overall length of the pipe changes depending on the size of the pipe. Download the MJB Industries Pipe Dimensions PDF on our Products page for a list of these dimensions.
Q? How do I set up an account?
A. You download and fill out our 30 Day Account Form on the Contacts page and send it back to us, we can organise to have your account set up within one day, given all your references get back to us promptly.
